What is Exercise is Medicine®?
“Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) is a global health initiative managed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) that is focused on encouraging primary care physicians and other health care providers to include physical activity when designing treatment plans for patients and referring their patients to EIM Credentialed Exercise Programs and Exercise Professionals.
EIM is committed to the belief that physical activity is integral in the prevention and treatments of diseases and should be regularly assessed and “treated” as part of all healthcare.”

That sounds great! How can I get involved?
To learn more about how physical activity can improve your patients’ health or find tools to help you prescribe appropriate exercise dosage to your patients, visit the Exercise is Medicine® Healthcare Provider website.
There you can:
- Take the EIM pledge to show your commitment to improving the physical activity levels of your patients.
- Find a template you can use to include physical activity levels as part of regular vital sign assessment.
- Read a Health Care Providers Guide that will give you tips and prescription pads for prescribing exercise for various conditions.
Once you have prescribed exercise for your patient, refer your patient to i’mPowered Nutrition & Fitness to help them make a custom-fit plan to fill their prescription and fit their lifestyle and limitations. If you would prefer, refer your patient without an exercise prescription and we can develop a prescription for them!
